“Story of a Phoenix” by Shamiqua Frazer

Story of a Phoenix
by Shamiqua Frazer

I hear her cry,

The beast within

Wanting to come out.

Out of the womb,

Kicking and screaming,

She tore her way out.

Life, hard from the start

Never a pause,

She saw only one way out.

Lost in the dark,

Surrounded by death,

Covered in blood,

This is her fate now.

Destined to happen

Written on scrolls,

Ancient text unfold

History repeated,

Lived by those who

Bleed out.

She mourns her lost,

Death she accepts

Her only way out.

Fear not an issue.

Dust she wishes

To return to,

But that does not play out.

Death made her stronger

From ashes she rises,

A Phoenix emerges out.

Out of the Dark,

Into the Light,

She is so much more now.

The shadows she carries,

Ingrained in her being,

She understands now.

The struggle it takes,

Sacrifice to be made

To break the curses down.

Moving more freely,

Her wings spread out.

The story continues

In her own words now.

A story of triumph,

Of hope and love.

A story of a little girl

Finding her way out.
