Natasha Marcano Art, More Than Enough, 2023, Pastels
Through my art, I try to emphasize the strength and power of Black women, celebrating the unique role their hair plays in shaping their identities. In early 2021, I started a new artistic direction, infusing my portraits with a vibrant and whimsical aesthetic using pastels. This approach retains a balance between the painterly yet graphic style that I wanted while amplifying the expressive quality of my work.
Additionally, I have integrated faux synthetic hair, liquid gold leaf, and acrylic paints into my artistic creations, further enriching the visual and tactile experience they offer. My paintings serve as a contemplative sanctuary, inviting viewers to engage with their emotions and individual journeys. Ultimately, my art should inspire and promote strength, beauty, empathy, and positive change.
