Complementing the visual art, Expressions of Strength also highlights the voices of Lancaster’s vibrant poetry scene. Curated by Nobody’s Pen, the exhibition integrates written works directly into the gallery space, weaving together poetry and visual storytelling in a way that deepens the audience’s engagement.
The opening reception on February 1 is set to be an electrifying evening of artistic expression and community gathering. A spoken word experience titled “Prolific Nostalgia”, led by acclaimed poet Sir Dominique Jordan, will bring the exhibition’s themes to life through performances by LASSAI, Christline, Kedrock, and Sam Yeye.
Attendees can also enjoy a pop-up bookstore by A Concrete Rose, featuring a curated selection of books celebrating Black literature, history, and culture, along with light fare and a cash bar provided by Lancaster Distilleries, Mark and Val Wines, Gem’s Catering, and Neilly’s Pantry & Beyond.
